Thanks for your post - Sorry to be an ignoramus - but I found the file using
Search because I couldn't see it when I looked in the OPEN dialog in WORD.
But when I double clicked on normal.dot in Explorer, it just opened a new Doc
NN file in WORD and not something named normal.dot

I did note that the last change to the normal.dot template was long before i
started having this problem. Can you tell me how to actually open
normal.dot? I'm using Word 2000

In Word, open your normal.dot template, click on Format | Columns | One
| Apply to: Whole document | OK. Even if "One" already appears to be
selected, click on it anyway. Type a character or two and then delete
what you just typed. Save your normal.dot template. In Word 2002 and
2003, normal.dot should be a hidden file in the "C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates" folder.

I usually work in print view. Recently, when I open a new blank document and
start typing, when i get to the end of the page I can keep typing but no new
blank page appears with the extra typing on it - like it used to. If I go to
Normal or outline view, I can see the material.
