Default word document pages # consecutively, section page # individually

Hi Robert

I would like to number all the pages in a word 2003 consecutively in the
header and number each document section or chapter independently in the
footer.

Example: top page center: - 12 -
bottom page center: page 1 of section 2

I have tried inserting a section break and field codes in the footer Page
{page} of section {section}. This works but forces the top page numbering
back to 1.

How can I accomplish this?

This gets a bit fiddly: Word can only count in one way, meaning: a PAGE
field can only have one distinct value on a given page.

This means that you need either to calculate the value in your header or
in your footer.

Also, all page references (like, in a TOC or an INDEX) will show exactly
what the page field on that page will reflect. Depending on what you
want to show there (the chapter/section page number or the book page
number), your selection of which page number to calculate and which to
show is given.

Tell us which way you want to go, and we tell us how to setup your
sections and how to calculate the other page numbers.
