Default MS Word & Corel WP at the same time

"Quick and dirty" guidelines:

On Windows XP or Server 2003, 128 MB memory plus 8 MB for every MS Office
2003 or XP application open, 4 MB for Office 200 applications (Except
Outlook and Access for which 8 MB is recommended. For Windows 2000, 64 MB
plus 8 MB for every MS Office application open. Windows 98 SE requires 24
MB plus.... with the additional restriction that Office 2003 will not
run on such systems.

Corel Word Perfect, all recent editions running on Windows XP require 64
MB with 128 MB minimum being recommended. This suggests 4 to 8 MB for WP
on top of the OS requirements

So, it quickly adds up. Say Windows XP with MS Word XP and Word Perfect
12: 128 + 8 +8 = ~ 144 MB should give responsive operation. Drop to 128
memory total and you probably would see some occasional slow-downs
because of increases virtual memory use and associated disk activity but
nothing intolerable.

However, given enough memory, you won't notice any impact having several
large applications open while editing in Word or any other MS Office
application or Word Perfect. I found 256 a good compromise.
(Incidentally, picture editing programs might benefit from more (e.g. 320
GB or more recommended for Windows XP plus Adobe In Design and 1 GB or
more recommended if any other application is to be open with it) with
video processing requiring yet more).

I have never experienced a problem having Word Perfect open and in use
when any MS Office application was also open and in use. Generally,
memory requirements are not as great as having, say, Outlook open with
it.

If you want to check further, there are newsgroups on Corel's server.
Also, doing a Google or other such search on XXXX system requirements
will usually give you useful information. [Replace XXXX by the relevant
program name.]
