Stephan,
Use a right aligning tab, click on the tiny little button in front of the
ruler till you see right aligned tab(looks like a flipped L), click in the
ruler on the spot you want your text flush right.
Now when typing, type whatever comes flush left, press the tab key and type
your flush right text. Press enter and repeat the whole thing. The tab will
be copied to the new paragraph.

Hi all
I want to align text like in a table of contents,
where I have opening text flush left, a variable space, then ending text
flush right.

how do I do this?
