Default Page numbering with chapter (letter) numbers

Thanks. I took a look at that article, and also How to create numbered
headings or outline numbering in your Microsoft Word document
(http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...umbering.html). It
mentions this interesting point when formatting a style: "In the Outline
Numbered Tab, choose a pre-set numbering option that is similar to what you
want. Choose this and promise yourself now that, no matter what, you will
never choose any of the other options here. Always choose the box that is
already highlighted."

I know this list gallery is strange after reading MVP John McGhie's
excellent article titled "Word's Numbering Explained", and that the last
selected numbering option selected from this gallery "sticks" even as far as
to Outlook, if it's set to use Word as the editor. This has to be one of the
most ridiculous features I've ever seen. Is that why you think she warns
never to choose any other option? I would find that very limiting, as the
next time you want to create a list in an email by clicking the Numbered
button on the toolbar, you get this one type all the time.

What I have done though, is apply a List Style to the Bullets and Numbering
of the Heading styles. I created the numbered list style separately so it
could be reused by other styles. Isn't that the purpose of list styles. These
are new in Word 2003 (or maybe 2002) as far as I know, but there is no Help
on list styles at all.

I've encountered several strange things (bugs?) using list styles applied to
paragraph styles, such as having the actual Heading styles lose their
reference to the list style simply by selecting the heading paragraph and
click the No List "list" style. Do you know where I can find a description of
this feature?
