Default Reopening a resized window: make it open with new size automatical

This is a general windows question:

A window is opened, then resized, then closed. Everytime it is opened it is
the old size, necessitating repeated resizing. Sometimes holding down the
Shift key while closing works (upon reopening it is the new size) but often
this does not work.

Any possibilities?

In order to get the new size to "stick" you have to save the file. Also, if you
haven't made any edits in the document, Word won't save even when you tell it
to; so you have to do something, such as insert a space and then delete it, to
force the save to happen.

To do something that will have an effect on new documents, read
