The point is that a document opens in the view in which it is saved. But the
document isn't actually saved if you just open it, change the view, and then
hit Save. You have to make some other change (such as Spacebar, Backspace)
to "dirty" the file so that Word will save it.

That is nice. But it only helps those who know about.
Moreover, it seems to affect all doc files the same way.
I thought MS Word saved the state of the display in the
doc file so that it would be opened the same way. Sigh,
I guess not. But this has seriously adverse consequences
when the file contains "drawings".

Anyway, thanks for pointing this out to me. I will make
sure other people who share my doc files are made aware
of this.
