Default How do I insert a line between text as in a table on contents

If you generate the TOC automatically (see
http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/toc/CreateATOC.html) Word inserts period
leaders by default. If you insist on creating it manually, then you'll need
a right-aligned tab with a period leader; see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/SettingTabs.htm.

I'm doing a manual and can't remember how to connect the subject to the

page
number in the Table of Contents, short of typing in a line of periods. How

do
I connect the two?
