Thanks ... you're right in that it seems if not poorly thought out, at least
not completely thought out. Too bad, I was hoping to aviod another "failure
point" by having everything having to be done twice. Thanks so much for the
info - at least I can stop trying to make it do something it can't.

you have to insert the reference twice, one with paragraph number format,
and once with heading text format. To avoid losing your place in the list of
headings, it's best to add both references one after another (that is,
without leaving the dialog to type in the document), and then insert the
space between the two references afterwards.
