I think Word just creates a local copy to use while you're working on the
file, so that you don't lose your work if the network connection is
disrupted, the floppy fills up, etc.

But it does not seem to do anything and there is no online or offline help
for this.
I would be grateful for advise on how to turn this functionality on and
where the lcal copy is kept.
