Default Documents take long time to open in Word 2003

Chances are you can simply save a blank document as a template and copy and
rename it to your template names and then deploy them temporarily. You could
put an AutoOpen macro in the template to reattach the document to the local
normal.dot template and save upon opening. Then, after you have opened each
of your documents, you can discard the temporary templates. It is still a
big job but can be done.

I believe that there is a fix available from Microsoft if you contact them.
I don't think it is available for download (or necessarily something that is
desirable to have).

I don't know if it's possible because we use over 100 templates on more
than
1000 machines but thank you for your replys! The problem also is when
receiving external documents that have attached templates to someone elses
server it takes a long time too.

One other solution is to copy the templates concerned to your User
Templates
folder on your local machine.

If you place templates of the correct name in the top level of that
folder,
Word will use them immediately. If not, it then polls the network for
six
locations and waits for a time-out on each before concluding that the
templates are not available.

Cheers

The problem is that when opening documents that has been created in
word97 or
word 2000 it takes a long time to open them, several minutes. The
documents
are attached to different templates that are stored on a server. All
the
templates exists and are stored at the correct location. I've read in
some
other thread that when the templates are stored on a server it can take
a
long time to open them. But the same documents work fine to open in
Word
2000! One solotion i've found is to, when the document finally opens,
delete
the path so that the document refers to the normal.dot. But this is not
a
very good soloution because it's several hundred documents.
I am wondering if anyone have a soloution?
