Footnote: Reduce blank space below it
Check if the Footnote Text paragraph style is defined with Spacing Below. If
it does, you can set the value to zero.
Another thing to consider: If you press Ctrl+Shift+8 to display nonprinting
marks, do you see any undesired contents, such as empty paragraph marks (¶),
in the footnote area?

Several of you have posted very helpful comments about goinf into normal
view, view footnotes and selecting the separator but this does not help

the blank space after the footnote.
