Hi Billza:
Place a Text Box containing text rotated 90 degrees consisting of a STYLEREF
field to the Chapter style in your running header or footer.
This is easy to do but complex to explain. Research STYLEREF fields, Text
Boxes, and Headers and Footers in the Word Help.
Make sure you understand the help topics fully.
Either ensure that your chapter always starts with a paragraph in the same
style, or look up IF fields as well. You can nest StyleRef fields in an IF
statement. That gets seriously complex: it is far better to discipline
yourself to use the same style for each Chapter name.
Things will be extremely simple (almost automatic...) if you use the
built-in Heading 1 style for chapter names.
While in Header/Footer View, drag the resulting text box into the margin
where you want it. It will stay there on every page.
Assuming that you are printing double-sided, ensure you allow an adequate
Gutter for the binding margin and choose alternating headers. You will need
to headers and two text boxes, one positioned for Recto (right-hand) pages,
one for Verso (left-hand) pages.
