In Word 2010, if you want a cover page with a cover image in the header, a second page with no header and the remainder of the document to have the same headers, follow these directions:
1. Go to the last line of text on the cover page
a. Click on the "Page Layout" tab
b. Under "Breaks" select the "Next Page" section break
This creates a new section on the following page and, in
this case, separates the second page from the cover page.
2. Double-click into the header on the second page (This should bring
up the Header/Footer "Design" tab)
a. Click on the "Link to Previous" icon
This removes the link between this header and the previous
b. Click on "Different first page"
c. Double-click on and delete the header on the second page
d. Double-click on the header in the third page and type
into the header that you want in that page and all of the
pages to follow.
Now you should have a cover that is different from your second page, your second page should have a blank header (or whatever you want it to be), and your following pages should have completely different headers.
