[Table of figures[_2_]]

Hi i'm using (Windows Vista) and i'm trying to create a list of tables . how
can i put a caption for the table ( is it in the same way of figures) and
how can i create the list of tables.
Note: in each time i'm trying to insert a list of table, the program delete
the the TOC and TOF and replace it with another ( table of figures)!

please help
