Default can i go back to a file i saved previously before it corrupted.

Not unless Word has been saving backup copies automatically. Check Tools -
Options - Save and see if Always Create Backup Copy is enabled; if it is,
then look file files matching *.wbk (in earlier versions of Word, the
extension for backup copies of doc files was different).
