How do I create a barcode in Microsoft word?

What kind of barcode? There are dozens.

The only kind Word can make without a special font or third-party software is a
US Postal Service POSTNET barcode, which is now obsolete
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/897290). If you really must insert one anyway,
use the Insert Field dialog (in Word 2007, Insert Quick Parts Field) to
insert a BarCode field, which can contain the zip code itself or the name of a
bookmark that covers the zip code.

For any other kind of barcode, visit the BarCode1 web site,
http://www.adams1.com/pub/russadam/share.html.
