Default Formatting Table Splits Table

I've never seen anything like this. If this is with a particular document,
or with documents created from a particular template, the document
(template) might be corrupt. See
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/apperrors/corruptdoc.htm.

If you want me to take a look at the document, you can send it to
.

I change "normal" formatting in the first row to a "headline"
format--different color, bold. When I make the change in the style
toolbox,
it splits the "headline row" into a separate table, usually below the
original table.

What formatting changes, exactly, are you making when the table splits?

Note that merging two split tables can sometimes be tricky. But note that
you can hold Alt (to override the grid settings) and then carefully drag
the
column borders so that they "match."

I create a table and change the formatting of the first row--header
row--and
sometimes the formatting takes, other times it splits into two tables.
If
I
remove the paragraph mark from between the two tables, the columns
don't
align. This is very frustrating.
