You can always try saving it to CD in 2 other ways:

1) Open up the CD by going into "My Computer" (assuming Windows
environment. Then drag the file icon you want to save over to the CD
window. (If you don't see the CD drive when you open My Computer, then
you have a more serious problem with the BIOS and/or the hardware)

2) Open the file (eg open the Word file in Word). Then go to File-Save
As... and resave the file on the CD (The top drop-down list -- "Save
in:" -- will allow you to get into the CD-drive. Again, if you don't
see it here, then you have a more serious issue).

Part of the problem you may be experiencing is that the computer may
not know that you have a blank CD in the drive. Most CDRWs come with
interaction software that allows you to interact with the drive. And
most of these software packages have DirectCD-type of application which
lets you add / remove files to and from the "CD" until you actually
write (finalize) the disc (after saving a file to CD, you may be asked
whether you want to save this so that other computers can read the
CD... this is finalizing the disc and practically this means that the
disc becomes read-only and can no longer be written to). Once you have
actually written to the disc, unless the CD is a rewritable disc, you
cannot add / remove any more files without corrupting the files already
on the disc. Thus if you have written to the CD in your drive
previously, the CD will no longer read as being empty and you can no
longer write out to that disc (Even if you only wrote 1 file of 10Kb in
size! Yes, the CD -should- have near 700MB of space, but once you've
written to the CD, trying to write more could corrupt previous files
written to it). As a quick troubleshoot, you may want to insert a new
blank CD and see if it works.
