Default Word - "recent Documents"

The MRU is stored in the registry and what you are experiencing is usually
due to some over-enthusiastic registry tweaker that is inhibiting changes to
the registry. The key is found at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\W ord\File MRU.

But note that this is a dynamic setting. Changing it from zero to 12 won't
suddenly display the last 12 documents. It will only start displaying as you
open, edit, save and close documents.
