Default what Unicode character for multiplication symbol like x?

This is available in the Verdana font, or Alt+0215 You can also use the
character map | Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools |Character Map.
Does this solve your problem?

I can't find the character, like a non-serif X, in the Symbols drop-down: is
it there somewhere?
