Change the Zoom factor:
At the right-hand end of the Standard Toolbar, just to the left
of the |? v| Help button, there is a | 73% v| Zoom button -
Click the tiny down-arrow and select 'Page width'. Then
play some more until you are happy!

I view my documents in the Print Layout and I had minimal grey space either
side of my documents as the horizontal ruler was pretty long.

However, any new document I make suddenly has a much smaller ruler and
