Default keyboard shortcuts selecting text

f8 turns on extended selection, if you don't want to do that, control shift
right and left arrows select by word and shift right arrow select by
letter.

Thank you for responding, but I was looking for a keyboard shortcut
without
using the mouse with the clicks, I know how to do that. I did find out
the
F8 is the key to use in doing all 3 that I needed to find out about.
Unfortunately, I'm still trying to turn on the select mode once it's
turned
on. Thanks again for responding !

Double-click to select a word, Ctrl+click to select a sentence (more or
less). Triple-click (or double-click in the left margin) to select a
paragraph. All these shortcuts are listed in Word's Help under "Keyboard
shortcuts."
