Word numbers comments as they are inserted. I want Word to retain comment
numbering on a per-reviewer basis. It destroys review email threads when Word
renumbers all comments from all reviewers, when a new reviewer inserts a new
comment.

Word doesn't support this. You may have meant this as a suggestion for
Microsoft, but forgot to activate that option in the web interface where you
posted the question?
