Default Corruption woes after update from Word 2002 to 2003

Bob, thanks very much for your input! I believe in your and Stefan's
evaluation and will return to WebWorks for tech support.

Thanks,
Teresa

Just a few thoughts as I'm not familiar with ePublisher or WebWorks, but
FWIW the info may be helpful:-)

First, there is no difference in the file format used by Word 2002 & 2003 -
both versions use the same identical file format so there is no "conversion"
from one to the other.

Second, if the files open & look fine in Word *and* you can generate correct
PDFs *and* the steps you've taken made no difference, it's highly unlikely
that there is any corruption in the docs. I'm fully with Stefan here - the
problem appears to be on the WW end.

Third, there could be any number of reasons why he couldn't open the file
based on the security "features" in most email transmittals anymore. It
isn't necessarily the fault of the file as you sent it. You might try
sending him another copy _but_ zip it first in order to protect it from the
evil henchmen of the email realm... It's like a baggage inspector going
through your suitcase with a chain saw:-)

I recently upgraded from Word 2002 to 2003 in order to fix some problems that
occurred when creating PDFs. Happily, this fixed my PDF problem. But now it
seems any manuals I¹ve edited since the upgrade are nowcorrupted, at least
in the eyes of my Help application [WebWorks¹ (WW) ePublisher Pro - the bane
of my existence!] The Word files themselves look fine to me.

WW¹s tech support diagnosed the corruption and told me to take thecorrupted
Word 2003 file and Save As an RTF, then Save As aDOC, and reformat. After
taking his advice, the (small) file in question compiled just fine in
ePublisher Pro.

Here is my problem: The next two manuals that arecorruptedare 200 pages
and 600 pages long. There is no way I want to reformat them after doing the
DOCto RTF toDOCconvertions. Lazy? Yes!

Here is what I¹ve tried to fix the corruption:
- Used the Open and Repair option in Word (didn¹t work)
- Copied everything in thecorrupteddocument except the last paragraph
mark, then pasted into a new document (didn¹t work)

When I say ³didn¹t work,² I mean they won¹t compile in ePublisher Pro. They
still look and behave fine in Word.

I was hoping I could revert the documents back to Word 2002 before creating
the Help but use the Word 2003 versions to make PDFs, toggling back and forth
depending on what type of document I need to create. But I don¹t know how to
do that in Word or whether it would be advisable.

BTW, how would I otherwise tell that my files arecorrupted? They do look
fine to me, and convert to PDFs fine. The WW tech support guy couldn¹t open
the file I sent him, though. Is there a way I can check to see if files have
this transparent corruption? If so, I could do this check and correct it
before trying to convert into Help.

I¹m using Word 2003 on XP. Thanks in advance for any help.- 隐藏被引用文* -

Teresa's problem I had encountered. I think you can try a utility
called Advanced Word Repair to repair your Word document. It works
rather well for my corrupt Word documents. Its web address is
