Default I am unable to save a file as a .ged

When you enter the filename, enclose it in quotes to prevent Word from adding a
default .txt extension to it. Alternatively, rename the file outside of Word to
remove the .txt extension.

I have been doing geneology for awhile now using Word 97. Here is the steps
I did to create the file for importation to my geneology program.

1. Get the file that was sent to me from email
2. Save the file.
3. Open word make modifications, save
4. Open Excel import the file
5. Add a column for the count, giving each line a line number per say for a
record count.
6. Save the file in excell format
7. Open Word "merge file" which i have it set up for the proper settings.
8. Select the data source of the excel i just did.
9. Merge into another file
10. Add header info and move the 0 trlr to after the last file.
11. Save as a text document with suffis .ged : file.ged
12. Open geneology program
13. import the said file file.ged
14. complete merge.

However with Microsoft Word 2007, it does not have the .ged format included.
It is saving as: file.ged.txt

Now I am at a hault of importing files. I was using my laptop with word 97
on there to convert the file to a .ged format but now my lap top is down.
