What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this
in help. For more about online forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...nTheBlanks.htm especially
Dian Chapman's series of articles.

You can put default text in form fields which can be edited. Otherwise,
you can unlock sections of the document and allow editing of those
sections. http://addbalance.com/usersguide/sections.htm

Hope this helps,

Apologies if this is the wrong group but I cannot find one for either
'general' word or 'forms'.

I want to be able to create a form which allows the users to edit parts
of it - i.e. some text which has already been entered but will need to be
edited.

is this possible without them unlocking the form?

Many thanks

Chris
