I created a drop-down form field in word file and in xsd file i defined a
string element for it. But when i saved word file in xml format, all fields
saved, execepting this one from drop-down field.

The dropdown field (as well as the checkbox) does not "translate" to plain
text when saving to XML. Not even if you save to WordProcessingML. The entire
information (list of terms as well as selected item) are in some special
proprietary, binary format.

The only non-macro solution that comes to mind would be to insert a REF field
that references the form field's bookmark name. That should pick up what's
displayed, and when you save as XML give you the text. Your biggest issue, I
imagine, is going to be that the user will see what he selects a second
time...
