Darryl,
Have a look at your toolbar, you should see a button with the symbol on it
somewhere - you may have have to hunt around if you've modified your
toolbars, also Word may have hidden the button away for you if it hasn't been
used in a while.
This is a show/hide button for the paragraph marker, switch it either on or
off depending on your preference.
