I just looked up this issue this morning and tried out a few alternatives.
Far and away
the best was: Highlight the material in Excel, Hold Enter and select Copy
Picture in the
Edit menu. A box will appear; select As Shown when Printed. Now go to Word
and Paste.
Formatting and graphics come through just fine. Oh, you can edit the
contents, too, but
it's slow going.
