Default Where is the word count tool?

It is not necessary to add the Word Count icon to the QAT since it is
already present (or potentially present) on the status bar. If you don't see
it there, right-click on the status bar and add it. The status bar will then
display the word count, and clicking on that will open the Word Count
dialog.

click on the Review tab
look on the left section entitled Proofing
down the right side of the box you will see an icon ABC123 this is the
word count icon.
highlight the area in your document that you need a word count and then
click on the icon . A little dialog box should pop onto your screen with
the
count for you.

to save yourself from searching out this tool each time, simply right
click
on the icon and select "Add to Quick Access Toolbar" . You will then see
the
icon appear in your toolbar immediately above your document
