Default Can't get Options to Stick

The Word startup folder is defined in tools options file locations
startup
The Office startup folder is at C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE10\STARTUP (Word XP)

Yes, the add-in starts every time. I've been looking for the Word
Startup folder. I searched Startup in Documents & Settings. No joy.
Can you tell me where it might be hiding?

If that add-in is in your Word (or Office) startup folder it will
always start with Word. If you want to use it only as required, move
it to another folder then add it to tools templates and add-ins
from that folder, then uncheck it until required.

I'm using Word XP. I like to set the Options to turn off most
of the bells and whistles. My options aren't sticking. They used
to stick. I recall that Acrobat once interfered with Word 2000 in
that fashion. Acrobat doesn't seem to be the culprit here -- Word
& Acrobat have been playing nicely lately.
But -- I installed LexisNexis Citation Tools (an add-in with
its own toolbar), and wonder if that can be interfering?

Does unselecting the Add-In (Tools | Templates and Add-Ins; and
only activate it when in need) help?
