Default window not active after merge

After running a mail merge (Word 2000, from an Excel 2000 source), my merged
document is displayed, but the window appears not be to not active (the title
bar is gray). However, if I start typing where the insertion point is, it
actually fills in. This only happens when pressing Merge from Tools - Mail
Merge. If I press Merge from the mail merge toolbar, the window instantly
appears active. Any ideas why this is?
