The "programmer" box is entitled
"Drop-Down Form Field Options." Since I had a limited number of drop-downs
with a limited number of choices, it was just easier for me to delete and
re-insert the drop-downs instead of trying to figure out why the drop-downs
did not work when converting from Office 2000 to 2003.

Thanks for letting me know that this worked. Apparently, the internal file
structures of the Word form were damaged at some point if this solved the
problem. Hadn't ever heard of this happening, before, in quite this way.
