No, in the Insert | Footnote dialog, there is a button to convert footnotes
to endnotes. But you could accomplish the same thing by setting the footnote
position as "Below text" instead of "Bottom of page."

OK, I found out -- use Find/Replace and change the formatting.

Joe,

Yes, that sounds like what I want, but how do convert the footnotes to
endnotes?

If I understand your question correctly the problem is a fundamental one:
You have a table in the text part of the document and the footnotes appear
where footnotes usually do, i.e., down at the bottom of the page. Word
assumes you wanted the footnotes to go down where they are and that the

text
is supposed to be clearly separated from them.

Here's a suggestion: If the document consists only of the table, or if the
table is the last item in your document, you might accomplish what you

want
by changing the footnotes in your table to endnotes. Unlike footnotes,
endnotes show up at the very end of the document, which in this instance,
would be right after the end of your table. You may have to insert a few
blank lines if you want a little separation between the table and the

notes.
See if that gets you want you want.

I am working on a document which has table with items footnoted. The
footnotes are below the table, and nothing is in between except a
paragraph
mark.

My problem is that the footnotes are spaced too far below the bottom of
the
table. How do I shorten that space?

BTW, I am using Word 97 and I don't know what version originally created
the
document.
