Thanks so much. Of course, after I posted the question, the fact that "ch"
likely stood for character became apparent. But it's still a bother when I've
been used to setting indents by tenths of an inch instead.

The page referenced shows a workaround but it requires running a macro every
time you open a document, apparently.
