Is there a way to place a circle around an uppercase letter? Thank you.

If you mean around a C or an R just type (C) open bracket C close
bracket or (R) and it will do it for you.
If not a "quick and dirty" way would be to draw a circle from the draw
menu, then right clicking on it, select "format auto shape" then go to
"colors and lines" and set the color to "no fill" . Then just drag the
shape over your character.
Also, you can type within the circle by right clicking on the shape and
select "add text" you can then type inside the shape. You may find you
need to remove the margins from within the shape from the "format
autoshape" then "textbox" option. You may also need to centre the text
as well.
