Default Quick Launch Toolbar....

Hi Jay
Can you advise a little further.........

I have navigated through the subtrees of HKEY_Users and HKEY_CURRENT_USERS
to all the MapGroup entries but don't find any reference to "Quick
Launch".....I do have the quick launch configured for myslf so expected to
find something that would indicate quick launch in HKEY_CURRENT_USER

I also tried using the "Find" feature on the registry and entred "Quick
Launch" but no results were returned.....I also tried looking up the Registry
Help....for MapGroups and Quick Launch but nothing was returned.

On Each of the MapGroup I do locate...there are two entries one indicates
Games........................Accessories / Games
Default

I expected to find a reference to Quick Launch somewhere........ (because I
am the only one of the four accounts I have setup on my computer using the
QLT)....under HKEY_USERS....I compared all entries and could find no
difference...

Any further help would be appreciated

Can any one till me how the quick Launch toolbar is actually created.

I can browse to the folder and see the contents of the QL folder.....but I
would like to understand how it's converted into the actual toolbar beside
the start button?

I have spent a good part of the day looking through many involved XP
books....ie XP Inside out....etc...but they only tell you how to swith it of
and on.

Please someone put me out of my misery.
Thanks

There's a key in the registry,

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\GrpConv\MapGroups

Under that key, Windows makes an entry named "Quick Launch" whose
value is the path to that folder you found. Whatever is in that folder
becomes a button on the QLT through the magic of programming.

If your computer has more than one user defined, each user gets
his/her own registry entry under

HKEY_USERS\security identifier for this user
\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GrpConv \MapGroups

and that entry is copied to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER area when that user
logs on.
