So there is no way to add or remove tabs, or to add or remove the palatte of
options that MS chose to include in them? Absolutely amazing (and very
disappointing)!

There is no easy way to do this. I suggest you start reading at
http://pschmid.net/office2007/customize and after you read this, go to
the RibbonX Portal there. The RibbonCustomizer add-in I am offering
there won't help you with your macro question, but it might help you
structure the tabs the way you like them.
The RibbonX Portal isn't as complete yet as I want it to be, but I'll
work on that in the next few days.

these things (and hides those that it thinks I don't want to use, making them
virtually inaccessible.) It is just about impossible to find something that
isn't under one of the tabs.)
