Default Word not opening files but opening itself

Hi there

I work in an I.T dept for a local govt organisation on a windows 2003
domain. Our users have office 2003.

When some users have a word document on their C:\ or anywhere really; when
they double click to open the document, it will open word but the document
itself will not open and display. They have to actually click file open
and browse.

I have tried reinstalling it thru deployment etc, any ideas or fixes out
there?
