incomplete punctuation mark
It seems odd that installing a new driver would not uninstall the old one
but it depends what you mean by installed. Did you run an exe you got from
the manufacturer's site - or did you reinstall the driver via the device
manager? Whichever, it seems certain that the new driver has resolved your
problem.
I confess to not understanding all the issues with printer drivers. I have a
laser printer which works just fine after I run whatever it was I downloaded
but somehow Windows (XP) does not think it has a driver and every time I
reboot it says it has found new hardware - I just Cancel and all is well. As
everything works and I reboot rarely it doesn't bother me but there is part
of me that would like to understand.

Following the advice given here, I downloaded the newest printer driver
and
installed it. But I forgot to remove the existing driver. When I tested,
the
print-out was no better. Then I realised my mistake and uninstalled the
driver. This has cured the problem: the printer prints complete
punctuation
marks. But I'm not sure what I've done. Since the printer works, then
presumably it has a driver, and presumably it's the one I've just
downloaded,
but I'd appreciate some confirmation of this.If both presumptions are
correct, it means that anyone with a similar problem will rectify it by
following Tony Jollans' advice.

Windows XP. Word 2002. Also, ViewSonic 19 inch TFT monitor. All new.
I've noticed with this new pc that there is something wrong with the
possessive apostrophe, which doubles as a single quotation mark, and
with the
double quotation marks. Although they look ok on the screen, including
in
print preview mode, they print with the tails missing, so that they look
really odd, especially when it's a double quotation mark. It's the same
printer as with the old pc, which didn't give me the same problem.
Can anyone explain to me the source of the problem? Is it the printer
or
keyboard? Is it software or hardware? What can I do to rectify it?
Answers greatly appreciated.
