Default Templates and Styles - style name overriding others

That sounds very odd. How are you creating the new style? Do you see the
same style selected in the Styles and Formatting Task Pane?

Thanks for your response.

I am using Word 2003. In the styles and formatting toolbar, where the name
of the style being used is displayed, e.g. normal. When you add a new
style,
called for example 'picture', even if the text selected is in normal it
will
display it as being in picture. There seems to be some setting in the
toolbar
regarding new styles and their names overriding others?

What version of Word are you using? I'm not sure what you mean by "shows
the
name of the new style that has been created". Are you saying you see
something like StyleName+Format?

I have created a new template that works very well until you add a new
style
while using the template. Although the styles all work when added to a
body
of text, the name of the style being used does not appear correctly in
the
styles and formatting panel on the right hand side (the toolbar).
Rather
than
showing the name of the style that is being used, it always shows the
name
of
the new style that has been created since opening the template. Any
suggestions for why this is and how to rectify it would be really
welcome
as
it is driving me mad!!
