Default How do you edit changes using multiple colors to track each edit

If you set change marking (under Tools Options Track Changes) to be 'By
Author' then each user's changes will be in a different colour. A User in
this context is determined solely by the name set under Tools Options
User Information. With appropriate manipulation of this you can show
different changes in different colours. The downside is that you have no
choice over the colours - Word chooses them and I don't think anyone outside
Microsoft understands how they are determined.

For example, a user is reviewing a word document that already has edits.
These edits are in red. He wants to change part of this existing edit and
have his change reflect another color. So within the orginal edit, there
would be 2 colors, one in red which is the original edit and his edit of
the
original edit, in blue. Does word have this capability?

We are currently using the highlight function as a workaround.
