Default mail merge

In the mail merge main document, toggle on the display of fields codes
(Alt+F9 and add the following formatting switch to the mergefield inside the
closing }

Using MSWord 2007 I am attempting to use mail merge to fill out a form.
Everything seems to work fine, except that in the merge the number "8.7"
becomes "8.699999 . . 93" I don't know if the issue is in Word or if it is
in
Excel.

The number entered in Excel is 8.7. It isn't a calculated value. It was a
vlookup entry, but I eliminated even that and just entered 8.7 in the
cell.
Cell is formatted for one decimal place.

Any thoughts?
