Thanks for your reply CyberTaz but I'm afraid its the opposite of that! When
I first try to edit the numbering format the 'continue..' checkbox is
undimmed but as soon as I click a numbering style or click on another tab is
dims and won't un-dim unless I close the Bullets and Numbering window and
reopen it. There appears to be to way to pick the style I want and at the
same time check 'continue..' on.

If you have anymore ideas how to resolve this I would be grateful, all I can
thing of doing is starting again from a new document in case I've some how
managed to 'muck up' the settings or numbering styles.

Many thanks,
Tracy in Mansfield.

Hi Tracy-

I believe you are simply being faked out by the way the Bullets & Numbering
dialog box behaves.

When you get ready to number a subsequent list and first go into the dialog
box, the option to 'Continue previous list' only appears dimmed until you
actually click the icon for the style of numbering you want to use.

In other words, select the numbering style _first_ and then you can specify
whether to start anew or continue from previous.

Also, once you select the type and specify 'continue...' the Bullets button
will use the settings when you click it, so you don't even have to return to
the dialog box unless you vary your numbering style within the doc.

If this isn't the solution, please post back with any additional detail you
can provide.

Someone please help me!

I have a document with numbered headings and I have numbered lists under
each heading but I can't get the numbered lists under to continue with the
headings. See below for example of what I'm trying to achieve. The continue
previous list checkbox always seems to be dimmed straight after a heading as
though it doesn't recognise the heading as being numbered.

2.6 Heading
2.6.1 List item
2.6.2 List item
2.6.3 List item

Many thanks in advance to anyone that may be able to help!
Tracy.
