You need to understand how headers are linked; only like headers are linked:
First Page Header to First Page Header, Header to Header, etc. When you
unlink a Header in Section 2, you are not unlinking it from the previous
(First Page) header but from the Header in Section 1. If you unlink the
First Page Header in Section 2, you're unlinking it from the First Page
Header (if any) in Section 1. So what you have accomplished is this:

1. In Section 1, you have the graphic in the Header. There is no First Page
Header and consequently no graphic for the First Page Header.

2. In Section 2, you have the graphic in the First Page Header. When you get
to a second page, since the Header in Section 2 is linked to the Header in
Section 1, you're getting the Section 1 graphic.

3. If you disable "Different first page," then you eliminate the First Page
Header and get the Section 1 graphic on all pages (because the Header is
linked to Section 1).

Here's what you need to do (assuming you want the Section 1 graphic on every
page of Section 1 and the Section 2 graphic on every page of Section 2):

1. Leave Section 1 as it is.

2. Create a second page in Section 2 if necessary. Unlink the Header from
the Header in Section 1 (turn off Same as Previous).

3. Copy or cut the graphic from the Section 2 First Page Header and paste it
into the Header.

4. You can then disable "Different first page" in Section 2, leaving only
the Header with the Section 2 graphic in it.

Hello

Using Office 2002 SP-2, Windows 2000 V5.0 SP-4.

I have a template with 2 sections, each with a different graphic in the
header. The graphic in each header spans the page. The header settings

in
the first section are for 'This section', with no different first page
(there is only one page in the section). Those in the second section are
set to 'Different first page', and also for 'This section'.

The first problem I have is that, when the second section goes on to 2
pages the graphic from the 1st section is inexplicably repeated on that
page. The second problem is that, in trying to amend this by unticking
'Different first page' and deselecting 'Same as previous' on the second
page, the graphic on the first page of the second section is removed. In
other words, unticking 'Different first page' has removed the graphic from
the first page instead of repeating it on subsequent pages.

I have been round and round in circles over this but cannot find a
solution. I have tried cutting the graphic in the second section and
repasting it but cannot get it to span the entire page as it should. If
anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Many thanks
