Default Automatic numbering in a Word table

What are you using the Heading 3 style for in that document?

If you are not using it for anything else, setting the table cells into
Heading 3 style and then setting Outline Numbering ON for the Heading series
of styles will get you what you want.

You need a Heading 1 and a Heading 2 paragraph above them to populate the
numbering, but you can hide that (Set its text to Hidden) if you are not
using numbering in your headings.

Trying to number rows in a table with numbers of the format

2.1.1 row1
2.1.2 row2
2.1.3 row3

I can already number rows with 1,2,3,4...

All help gratefully received.
