Default put 1/2 page merge on top of page, repeat at bottom to save paper

OK - I was thinking of the wrong two pages

Not if you leave the paper orientation as Portrait. Try it. (And note
that,
as emphasized in my previous post, this is the "2 pages per sheet" in Page
Setup, not the one in the Print dialog).

Actually, expanding this thread, I see that my original reply seems to be
missing. It was:

If you have Word 2000 or above, your best bet is to use "2 pages per
sheet"
under "Multiple pages" on the Paper tab of Page Setup. This gives you two
logical pages on a single sheet of paper. You can create a single page and
then copy/paste the content into page 2 or (more simply), just put 1,1 in
the Pages box in the Print dialog to print page 1 twice on a sheet.

Please note that this is NOT the "2 pages per sheet" option in the Print
dialog, which reduces a single page to fit twice onto a sheet.

Surely two pages per sheet will put the documents side by side shrunken
to
half letter/B5?

I missed that Joyce was creating a mail merge, but "2 pages per sheet" is
still the best way to go. This permits a simple letter merge, one record
per "page."

Either set the merge type to Directory/Catalog and the second record
will be merged immediately after the first (assuming there is the
correct amount of space to reproduce the document in the lower half of
the page), or leave it as a letter merge and duplicate the merge
document on the page with copy and paste, and at the start of the
duplicated version add a Next Record field.
