Default get rid of the "Read Only" on stubborn document

But it was whether you were really over-writing the original Word file when
you re-saved it as a Word document.

Hope this helps.

But if it's saved as an .rtf then it IS technically a different file name.
Weird.

Well, not being able to look over your shoulder, I wondered whether you
were
really saving it under the old file name.

Doug,

Saving under a different name did the trick! How in the heck does that
make
a difference?!!!

How about if you save it with a different name?

Did you close the .rtf file and then open it afresh before saving it as
a
Word file.

Ahh ha -- that did it -- but only for the .rtf file!

As soon as that .rtf file is saved as a Word .doc, the macros are back
and
it is read only again!!!

Save the document as an .RTF file. Close it, and then open it and save
it
back as a Word document.

I don't know, that's why I'd like to eliminate it. Even If I delete
everything in the document (blank document) and save to a new file
name,
the macro is still there -- when I open the file, but before it opens,
I
get
a warning that says, "The document you are opening contains
macros...."
.

What does the macro do?

I would rather eliminate the macro -- is there a way to do that?

What happens if you enable the macros?

Pat,

I open the file, but before it opens, I get a warning that says,
"The
document you are opening contains macros...." and click on Disable
Macros.
The file opens and in the title bar it says (Read Only). So I make
changes,
save it to a different file name (and make sure, in Options, that
the
Read-only Recommended is not checked, and it is not). I close the
file.
Next time I open the file (the one in which I made changes and
saved
under
a
new file name) I get a warning that says, "The document you are
opening
contains macros...." I click on Disable Macros. The file opens and
in
the
title bar it says (Read Only)! I check Windows Explore and find
that
it
does NOT have the Read Only attribute.

So - Jack!

What indication (exactly) do you get that the file is Read-only
(and
when do you get it)?

Pat & Suzanne,

Yeah, I've already gone to Windows Explorer and to look at
Properties --
both the Read and Hidden boxes are already unchecked -- that's
what
makes
this so frustrating!

In Windows Explorer, right-click on the document and choose
Properties.
Clear the "read only" check box.

How do I get rid of the "Read Only" on a stubborn document I
received?
I
save the document to a new file name, but, upon opening, it also
is
"read
only"! FYI, It has some embedded macros that I disable every
time
upon
opening.
