Default Style for ordinary paragraphs

I was under the impression that "Body Text" was the correct style to use to
get blank space between paragraphs. For example, according to
http://www.techscribe.co.uk/ta/styles-in-word.doc

"Best practice says that you shouldnt use the paragraph style Normal for
your text. The reason for this is that Normal is the basic style on which all
other paragraph styles are based. So, if you change Normal, theres a good
chance that youll affect other styles in a way you dont intend. Its best
to use the style Body Text for all your main text."

But now I find that in Word 2007 the default is that "Body Text" is hidden
from the list of styles. I get the feeling that Microsoft do not want it to
used, and that I am fighting against tide.

Does anyone have some up-to-date advice on which style should be used for
ordinary paragraphs?
